Enzo De Blasio, the owner and helmsman of the world-renowned IY 11.98 named “Scugnizza,” joyfully announced that they have won the prestigious Copa del Rey for the second consecutive year. They triumphed in the ORC3 class, achieving an impressive series of victories in the final races: a remarkable six consecutive first places, with an impressive 22-point lead over the second position. The team, led by Enzo De Blasio himself, tactician Diogo Caiolla, and other crew members such as Umberto and Antonio Coppola, Andrea Ballico, Andrea Bussani, Nevio Sabadin, Nikolaus Matteo Mascoli, Francesco Murillo, Mario Prodigo, and Francesco Russo, celebrated this victory with emotion and pride. The significance of the accomplishment was heightened by the fact that King Felipe VI of Spain, an experienced sailor himself (and skipper of the TP 52 Aifos, second in ORC 1), personally presented the Copa.

Mr. De Blasio expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the Copa del Rey, praising the exceptional racecourse and perfect weather. He emphasized that, in his view, Mallorca is the best location for sailing competitions of this caliber. In addition to Scugnizza’s success, other teams from the Italia Yachts family also delivered outstanding performances. IY 9.98 “Lassal,” led by Gonzalo Calvo, secured a strong second-place finish on the podium in ORC4. This achievement was notable, especially considering it was the team’s first time racing together. IY 11.98 “Geex,” helmed by Lucas Massa and Rodrigo Funes, earned a commendable fourth place overall, followed by Stefano Rusconi’s “To Be.”
